About Us

Details Wigay Aboriginal Cultural Park in Kempsey provides a unique opportunity to experience local Aboriginal culture and learn about traditional foods, all within a natural parkland setting. Wander through the 2.75 hectare park at your own pace, or take an interactive guided tour to learn which of the many native trees, shrubs and plants are used by Aboriginal people for food and medicinal purposes. The park contains displays of wetland, wet forest, woodland, rainforest and tropical plants of Australia. Directions: From the Kempsey General Post Office on Smith Street turn right at the set of lights before the Kempsey Traffic Bridge. Continue along Belgrave Street over the railway line and then turn right at the roundabout exiting into Sea Street. Take the sixth street on the left, Dangar Street and park at the end of the road. Opening Hours 9.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Book a group tour of Wigay Aboriginal Cultural Park (wigay meaning food in the local Indigenous language) to learn about Australian Aboriginal Culture through talking about and seeing firsthand some of the traditional uses of native plants for building, medicine, food and other ancient uses that have been passed on through the seasons. The informative tour can be delivered to suit both young or old and goes for approx. 1 ½ hours, the tour can also include a fresh fire baked morning tea of Lemon Myrtle Billy Tea and Damper served with native jams. Starting times are from 10:00am onward, bookings are required in advance. Prices range from $12 per person without morning tea and $20 per person with morning tea, minimum of 10 people.
